May 17th, 2012 by Paula

Eternally quirky and gorgeous, Tatty Devine have not dissapointed with their latest offerings. Getting in on a little Jubille fever, they have some new royal inspired jewellery including a bunting necklace workshop kit, crown necklaces and mega cute tiaras! All come complete with swarovski crystals for some serious sparkle.

Another stand out range is Tatty Devine for Eley Kishimoto,  featuring summery abstract floral prints, just asking to be artfully clashed with your favourite outfit. The prints are taken from Eley Kishimoto’s spring summer 2012 collection, called ‘Toy Town Eden’

OUT + ABOUT meets SUZI KEMP

May 11th, 2012 by Paula

We meet lots of inspiring and creative people at OUT + ABOUT so we decided to interview some of our fave creative ladies. First up Suzi Kemp, an East London artist who makes colourful, punk tinged art and has worked with Vans, ID and Dazed Digital.

Tell us what you do and how did you get into it?
I work as a freelance illustrator. I always knew I’d draw forever and finally twigged you can do it as a job. I went on to study an illustration degree – I’ve learned an awful lot in the real world after finishing that though!

What inspires your work?
I am inspired now by the things I’ve always loved: music, customization, colour combinations, pattern, flowers, and anything that isn’t boring! I have a very long list of things I want to draw, one day I hope I’ll finish it, who knows.

You’ve worked with Vans Girls, Dazed Digital and i-D online- who’s next and who would be your ideal client?
I have a whole bunch of things in the pipe line! I have been working on some wearable things which I am super excited about, and I’m looking forward to seeing them produced. At the moment my ideal client would be a clothing company that wanted me to design crazy wild fabrics and graphics for them, then they would turn them into garments! Sadly sewing machines were never my strong point.

What advice would you give to people to trying to break into illustration?
Don’t be afraid to make the work you want to see-if you like, it other people will too! Have a web presence so people can see your work, its really fun too. Make a blog, website and twitter. Don’t be afraid to approach people for work or advice, most are surprisingly friendly.

How would you describe your style and where do you shop?
I love t-shirts and almost always wear a band t-shirt or one by a streetwear brand with a big graphic. I have quite a few jackets with patches and stuff I’ve added. I usually team this with printed clothing I pick up at the shops around Hackney, they’re full of animal prints so it’s the best. I also like high waisted jean shorts, white socks and doing nail art.

What music are you playing right now?

What are you favourite places in London?
I like shopping in Chinatown for stationary, going to Hampstead Heath when its sunny, going to see shows at Beach Gallery in Brick Lane and gardening on my rooftop. My plan for the summer is to draw like crazy and go surfing in Cornwall!

THANKS SUZI! Go see Suzi’s website and follow her on Tumblr and Twitter.
